Filmed in October 2016. Over 9 years ago!
At the time this was filmed, L.A. Sanitation was in the middle of receiving a LOT of new CNG garbage trucks and they were also in the process of retiring the oldest equipment in their fleet. The West L.A. Yard (the yard this truck ran out of) was no exception as they started getting some of their first CNG full size ASL trucks around this time. Knowing this, I knew that these old 2000-01 diesel Pete/Amreps that operated out of the West L.A. Yard had their days numbered. So one Wednesday morning, Eli and I woke up early and met up at the West L.A. Yard to watch the 6AM launch and to wait for this truck to leave the yard. Luck was on our side and we didn’t have to wait long because when we arrived, this truck was already turned on and ready to go! When this truck left the yard, we followed it to its route which to our convenience, was right down the street from the yard!
We followed and filmed this truck from the very start of the route until around the end of his first load. I tried getting a handful of street side shots because of how awesome this truck sounded. Something we’ll most likely never get to hear again. In January 2017, about 3 months after filming this video, this truck was officially put out of service and retired by the city. It was one of the last few remaining 2001 diesel Pete/Amreps when it was pulled out of service. It was definitely worth getting up early to track this truck down and it paid off as well.
A huge thanks to the very friendly driver for letting us follow along and for letting us film! Please enjoy the video and thank you all for watching!
Filmed: October 12, 2016 in Sawtelle, Los Angeles, California.
