Papakōlea, commonly called “Green Sands Beach” is located near the southern tip of the island. Although this isn’t an easy beach to get to, it’s well worth the effort; just make sure to prepare for this 3 mile hike with plenty of water, food and sunscreen. This beach is well known for its glistening green sand. The source of the green coloration of the beach sands is due to the olivine crystals.
