South Korea reported on Saturday that 594 new cases of the COVID-19 virus had been confirmed, raising the total in the country to 2,931.
The new numbers came as the country deployed its military to a train station in Daegu, the site of a church at the centre of South Korea’s outbreak.
Calling it a “critical moment,” South Korea’s vice-minister of health and welfare, Kim Kang-Lip, advised people to refrain from taking part in public events, including religious gatherings and protests.
The country now faces the largest outbreak of the virus outside China, with a new death taking the tally to 17.
