Jaishankar & India's Democracy Debate I Foreign Minister slams narrative of India as "partly free"

Описание: India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has been attracting praise back home for his blunt and acerbic comments on the global stage. At a joint meeting with US Secretary of State Blinken, Jaishankar pushed back on the Western prism through which Indian Democracy is being seen.

"India does not believe that the quality of democracy should be decided by others" he argued, focusing on India's robust electoral process and services for all approaches to public policy. His comments come against the backdrop of many liberal commentators expressing concern over diminishing democratic standards in India.

Among them is a political scientist and Brown University Professor, Ashutosh Varsheny whose recent chapter in a book titled 'Democracy in Hard Places' has attracted a lot of comment and debate.
