Change Management Processes in Model-Based Systems Engineering

Changes are intrinsic to system development. These changes regularly cause cost and schedule overruns due to design rework. Existing techniques seem unable to provide an adequate change management process. Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) allows for the creation of new change management processes that improve on the traditional methods. A change management process for projects developed in an MBSE environment is outlined. This process depicts the advantages of using MBSE to reduce time spent on a project when faced with high-level system changes. This process was then applied in the development of a CubeSat project and reduced the time spent on changes compared to the traditional process.
