You don’t often hear “The Sentinel Of Conservatism” and “Wab Kinew” in the same sentence — but credit where it’s due, this time the Manitoba Premier is right.
Wab Kinew just called on Prime Minister Mark Carney to drop the 100% tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles, after Beijing hinted it might lift its crippling canola tariffs in return. That’s a rare move putting prairie farmers ahead of political talking points.
But not everyone’s happy. Auto union boss Favio Volpe blasted Kinew, and now the Premier’s caught between helping farmers or pleasing his union masters. Meanwhile, Saskatchewan’s Scott Moe agrees with dropping the tariffs — but Ontario’s Doug Ford says there’s “no damn way.”
And at the center of it all? Mark Carney — the climate banker turned Prime Minister — still pushing EV mandates that Canadians don’t want and can’t afford.
Here’s the question: if EVs are the key to saving the planet, why not make them affordable? Because this was never about the planet — it’s about controlling the market.
