Rota Vicentina is a scenic multi day hike on the rugged Atlantic coast of Portugal and while we did not have the time to complete the whole trail, we decided to do some loop hikes.
The scenery around Cabo Sao Vicente close to Sagres is particularly wild and beautiful. It is the southwesternmost point of Portugal and of mainland Europe. We started at the lighthouse in the most unwelcoming weather. Bouts of rain were alternating with periods of sunshine, the only constant being the very strong winds. Apart from the spectacular coast cliffs and the waves crashing them, the littles islets are also very beautiful especially in the sunset light.
After about three hours and close to dusk, the lighthouse guided us back to the warmth of our car and then to Sagres.
