NEW TACLOBAN AIRPORT
• The Tacloban Airport Development is a flagship project of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., which aims to transform the airport into an international gateway by 2028.
• In 2026, the terminal building will open for domestic travel. 2028 meeting international standards
• On September 15, 2020, then-House Majority Leader and Leyte's 1st district representative Martin Romualdez unveiled the approved design of the terminal.
• Construction of the terminal with a capacity of 1,670 passengers started in 2020
o New Passenger Terminal Building Phase I - PHP761.91 million
o Tacloban Airport Development Project Phase 2 - PHP1.05 billion budget, is up for completion in early 2026
o Passenger Terminal Building Phase III, and the construction of airport facilities - PHP1.5 billion
o Total Cost – PHP3.3 billion
o first two phases are funded by the Department of Transportation
o The third phase, funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)
• The airport has a single 2.5km runway to make the airport capable of handling international flights
• Other structures include a communications tower and an administrative building
• The building design is inspired by San Juanico Bridge
• PHP46 million new access road leading to the airport
• The Tacloban airport is the 7th busiest airport in the Philippines and caters to as much as 1,500,000 passengers.
TACLOBAN CAUSEWAY
• The ongoing P4.98-billion causeway project in Tacloban is one of the administration’s priority infrastructure projects.
• four-lane road embankment that spans about 2.56 kms., with a bridge at the center
• feature separate bike lanes, concrete canals, sidewalks, as well as wave deflectors on both sides
• It will complement the future new airport terminal building designed to accommodate international flights.
• The project is a joint venture between L.N.R. Construction and Sunwest Inc.
• Total project cost has increased from P3.46 billion to P4.59 billion
o 2022 GAA - P880 million
o 2024 GAA - P1.92 billion
o 2025 GAA – P1.17 billion
o For 2026, it needs another P1 billion to complete the project.
• alternate route from the city’s commercial district going to the airport, reducing travel time from 45 minutes to only 10 minutes.
• With a proposed 360 meter bridge and installation of sewerage water treatment to avoid contaminating Cancabato Bay
