The Texas Gulf Coast, and its lands along the Gulf of Mexico, also has another name.

It is the Texas Coastal Bend.

That "bend" is a curve of land on the Texas Gulf coast, running northeast from the tip of South Texas to the edge of East Texas at the Louisiana border.

This region is a major factor in Texas' economy — with many jobs related to shipping, tourism, maritime and offshore industries — and in Texas' population, with a total of over 6.3 million residents, or about one-fourth of the entire state's population.

The chief population centers for the Texas Coastal Bend are the cities of Houston, Pasadena, Beaumont, Corpus Christi, Brownsville and McAllen, all of which have a minimum of 100,000 residents. Houston is the largest with just under 2 million residents in its city limits.

The counties of the Texas Coastal Bend include Aransas, Bee, Brazoria, Brooks, Calhoun, Cameron, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Goliad, Harris, Hidalgo, Jackson, Jefferson, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Liberty, Matagorda, Nueces, Orange, Refugio, San Patricio, Victoria, Wharton and Willacy.

The Texas Coastal Bend includes many bays and ports. Among the bays are Baffin Bay, Laguna Madre, Corpus Christi Bay, Aransas Bay, Copano Bay, Matagorda Bay, San Antonio Bay, Galveston Bay, Nueces Bay and Oso Bay.

Among the ports are the Port of Beaumont, Port of Brownsville, Calhoun Port Authority,
Port of Corpus Christi, Port Freeport, Port of Galveston, Port of Harlingen, Port of Houston, Port of Orange, Port of Port Arthur, Port of Port Mansfield, Port of Port Isabel, Port of Palacios, Port of Texas City, Port of Victoria and Port of West Calhoun.

Many maritime workers or offshore workers live in the Texas Coastal Bend. When such workers are injured in jobs on the water, they have special protections provided by the longtime federal maritime law known as the Jones Act.

If you or a loved one has been injured on the job on a ship, vessel, boat, rig or platform on the water, alert a Texas Jones Act lawyer with veteran Texas Gulf Coast law firm Jim S. Adler & Associates. The personal injury law firm of Jim "The Texas Hammer" Adler can help you get the financial recovery — and the justice — you deserve after a maritime accident or offshore accident injury.
