The fruit is a spherical berry that looks like a small yellow tomato. Once it’s separated from its paper-like husk or calyx, it tastes sweet when it’s ripe.

We are on the coast of southwest #England, a temperate oceanic zone with mild winters. Yet Physalis is widely grown in warm climates as a summer annual. Planted in springtime and properly cultivated: my six-year-old #Physalis keep coming back every summer.

Follow my video and my recommendations in this description, and you should be fine. These berries are confirmed by reliable sources (RHS) to be edible and generally safe; we would not recommend eating any fruits or berries without first checking for toxicity. And other than their berries: nothing else from these plants is safe to eat.
Today we take a more thorough and critical look at how I've been growing hundreds of perennial #Physalis peruviana (#Goldenberries a.k.a. Cape gooseberries). My Physalis have a long harvest period from July to October every year, thanks to a few simple rules. Feed these plants with mulch, and don't overwater them. Don't overfeed them, otherwise there will be more leaves than fruits.

The three major nutrients that plants need are nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (#NPK). The initials of their chemical symbols are N (Nitrogen), P (Phosphorus), and K (Potassium). Yet there are many other factors to consider such as a good watering once a month, and plenty of sunlight.
