The Indian-flagged LPG tanker Shivalik, carrying over 40,000 tonnes of LPG, safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz under Indian Navy escort, during Iran’s partial blockade that began on March 4.
Another tanker, Nanda Devi with 46,000 tonnes, also passed after India-Iran diplomatic talks.
Since 90% of India’s LPG imports pass through this route, the blockade had stranded 22 ships, causing shortages and long queues in cities like Noida and Chennai.
These crossings bring temporary relief, while India continues talks to allow more tankers to pass safely
