Iran is planning a a military drill in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global shipping lane.
The drill, scheduled for Sunday and Monday, could involve live fire in the area where a fifth of the world's traded oil passes.
The U.S. military's Central Command issued its own warning early Saturday, telling Tehran that any “unsafe and unprofessional behavior near U.S. forces, regional partners or commercial vessels increases risks of collision, escalation and destabilization.”
The strait, historically significant for trade, remains vital for energy shipments heading to Asia. Tensions have risen recently, partly due to Iran's protest crackdown and nuclear program.
