You can do this as a simple DIY job, I would recommend doing this service every 6000 - 8000 miles (under 10000 km) just as a preventative measure - it doesn't cost much and will prolong the life of the engine and it's components. You need to make sure you're using oil as recommended by manufacturer - it's not so much about brand of oil you choose, but to use oil with specification that was advised by manufacturer. Too often I have seen people using just one generic oil for most cars, or using 'proper brands' of incorrect specification. As always, servicing in time (or even slighlty more often) will prevent issues with the car and will make sure you will enjoy using it. Even the worst car will run better with good maintenance and upkeep, than the best and most reliable that's been neglected when it comes to servicing and maintenance.
