It is large and it resembles a dog,
Or a large cat or a leopard league.
You wonder what is that at treetop,
Or multiple ones watching you troop.

Each jackfruit has a different character:
Oval, ellipsoidal, or spherical shaper,
Green, yellow, or yellow-green colours,
With the sharp hexagonal tubercles;

Hold them and those make your palm red,
With milky creamy sticky icky sap liquid,
Wondrous strong fruity smell it spreads,
You don’t eat the hard-sappy raw seeds;

You do eat the flesh coverings of it raw,
Transparent plastic-like bag of seed? Oh, no!
Not the underdeveloped bubble-gum like perianth,
But the outer fluffy starchy fruity flesh;

Sweet when ripe but resembles classy,
Vegetables when not, you make curry,
Even milkshake, or stew or bake or fry or roast;
The vegetable version is a meat substitute;

And it feeds an entire family with just single fruit,
Hard or slightly crunchy or chewy or soft,
The ripen ones are like sweet confectionary,
Or dessert or pudding or oozy messy candy.

You can make jam or Chakka Varatty: infinite-
Possibilities! That’s jackfruit for you, hear it!
And roast that seed and salt it and eat it;
And now you eat a cousin of any nut.

Not too many as you may make booms and bangs;
Smelly biological weaponry: gas bombs!
