Return to Ithaca - Short Film - Cleaning up a Ghost Farm

Описание: What is a "ghost farm"? 💭
10 years ago a fish farm was abandoned in the Ionian Sea around Ithaca, Greece 🇬🇷
The business went bankrupt, the owner abandoned the entire farm, and it was sunk to the bottom of the sea instead of being removed responsibly 😠
The #environmental crime and the havoc it wreaked to nature around the island was too big to be tackled by the local #community 😔
Luckily, with a big number of volunteers and partners, we were able to provide all the help needed for two consecutive years 🤝💙
In total, we were able to remove over 100 tons of #ghostnets and other marine litter! 🤩
Being supported by the local community is something we deeply value and were able to feel every single day during the projects "Journey to Ithaca" (2021) and "Return to Ithaca" (2022).
Unfortunately, small islands are especially vulnerable to this kind of environmental crime and unethical business practices.
This "ghost farm" is not the only one of its kind!
