From the ancient stones of Hampi to the deep greens of Bhadra, this journey was all about chasing stripes across three safaris at Muthodi range—and still not spotting a tiger, but falling in love with the forest anyway. In this vlog, I take you along my road trip from Hampi to Bhadra Tiger Reserve in Karnataka, break down how we planned our safari slots, and show the real side of wildlife trips where jungles don’t perform on demand.
We did three back-to-back safaris at the Muthodi side of Bhadra, trying different slots and soaking in misty tracks, calls of birds, herds of deer and gaur, and those quiet moments that make you forget you came here “for a tiger.” Tiger sightings are never guaranteed here, but the raw forest vibe still makes every single drive worth it.
If you are planning your own trip, Muthodi safari basics are simple: the forest department runs safaris twice a day—morning (around 6:00–9:00 am) and evening (around 3:00–6:00 pm), and you buy your tickets directly at the safari point before the ride. There are limited vehicles (a few jeeps and one canter/bus per slot), so it helps to reach at least 30 minutes early, especially on weekends and holidays.
Approximate ticket details (Muthodi/Bhadra):
Bus/canter safari: about ₹500 per Indian adult per safari, with lower prices for students and children, and higher rates for foreign nationals.[
Jeep safari: about ₹600 per Indian adult per safari at Muthodi, with student and child tickets slightly lower and foreigner tickets higher.
A minimum group size is usually needed to start a jeep (often 5–7 people) if there aren’t enough people, you may need to wait or pay for the remaining seats.
Safari duration is typically 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on the vehicle, route, and sightings.
These prices are approximate and can change, so always check the latest board at the gate or with the forest staff when you visit; use my breakdown as a planning reference, not a fixed rate card. In the video, I’ve shared what we actually paid on the ground, how the booking process worked for us, and a few tips to keep your expectations realistic while you enjoy the jungle, even if the tiger decides to stay invisible.
