PocketDoom v1.0.0 brings the legendary DOOM experience to the Analogue Pocket, allowing players to enjoy one of the most influential first-person shooters of all time on a modern FPGA handheld. Built as a homebrew project, PocketDoom enables the Analogue Pocket to run classic DOOM engine titles by loading original WAD files, bringing portable demon-slaying to the openFPGA ecosystem.

The release supports multiple versions of the original game, including DOOM, DOOM II: Hell on Earth, The Ultimate DOOM, and the Final DOOM expansions (TNT: Evilution and The Plutonia Experiment). Players simply provide their own WAD files and load them through the PocketDoom setup, making it a flexible way to experience the iconic id Software classic on the Analogue Pocket.

This project highlights the growing power of the Analogue Pocket’s openFPGA platform, where developers continue to push the handheld beyond cartridge play into full homebrew and software ports. With DOOM famously being ported to countless devices over the years, PocketDoom continues the tradition by bringing the iconic shooter to one of the most popular FPGA handhelds in the retro gaming scene.
