NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (Diplomacy 19) A session at Hollywood's United Recording in November 1965 gave birth to this marvelous and soulfully percussive dance floor production entitle, 'Deeper'. Lead vocal is given credit to a talented vocalist who was also quite easy on the eyes by the name of Sandy Borden. Issued in late 1965 on Diplomacy Records which was owned by producers, Bill Silva and Al Verissimo, it appears that the Rudy Clark composed tune had been recorded by at least two other acts prior. In March 1964 the 'Queen of Soul', Aretha Franklin record a fantastic version for Columbia Records that was relegated to just an album track and then a May 1964 Vee Jay single was released by a girl group by the name of the Rubies. Both Sandy and Aretha get the prize for the better versions which are both quality productions that are pleasantly individualistic from each other.
Supposedly, the lone Warner Bros. single credited to Patty Lemann from July 1965, 'I Could Have Love You So' b/w 'Ashamed', has been claimed to actually be the voice of Sandy Borden. These ears don't hear it in the higher pitched voice of Miss Patty. You decide.....
Many thanks to HAL KEE for the wonderful photos of Sandy Borden shown in this video. *
