The Volvo P 1800 is undoubtedly the most elegantly, and dynamically-designed Volvo of the twentieth century. The Volvo P1800 engineering was project-managed by Helmer Petterson, and his son Pelle who penned the design in 1957 whilst he was employed at 'Carrozzeria Frua', a subsidiary of Ghia. Volvo introduced its final P1800 variant, the stylish 1800ES, in 1972 as a two-door station wagon with a frameless, all-glass tailgate. Delivering a vehicle that was sporting, but without compromising their standards, Volvo brought to market a vehicle that is still special today. Introduced for the final two years of P1800 production the ES variant brought a striking shooting brake body to the sports tourer. The changes went further than a redesign of the body. The ES engine was changed to to 125bhp by reducing the compression ratio and using a larger head gasket. Although maximum power was very slightly down, the engine was less "peaky" and the car's on-the-road performance was much improved. During the two years of production only 8,000 ES models were built, making this a true collector’s car. The P1800 became the long-distance cruiser of choice for those wanting to cross a continent in style and comfort. None have such notoriety as a P1800 that holds the highest mileage ever certified in non-commercial use in the Guinness Book of records, recorded at the time at 1. 7 million miles. That same vehicle would go on to be used by its owner until he passed in 2018, with an odometer reading of 3. 2 million miles.

Our car was first registered 7th January 1972. The production number is 427 of 8077, therefore the vehicle is one of the first in the production run completed 26 November 1971 per Volvo UK, with an Engine no: 187 and Body no: 492. The car, as you would expect, has a current MOT with No Advisories and car has undergone an extensive body and mechanical restoration in recent years, complete with over 800 photos and invoices of the restoration from 2012 to 2023. With Volvo owners manual & Haynes workshop manual. Mileage is 64,000 corroborated by the previous private owner. We have some early history and all of the restoration/ new parts bills from 2012 to date. The car has undergone an acid dip and strip in 2013, respray in 2017 and further respray back to an original Volvo colour/ underseal in 2023 and full component and engine rebuild with unleaded valve seats.

In beautiful condition for it's year. A stunning example of a legendary car with some original Volvo bills from Olaf Olsen of Huddersfield from the early 1980s.
The engine has been rebuilt, re-cored the radiator, skimmed, and rebored the cylinder head, with unleaded valve seats, new cylinder head gasket, cooling fan, fitting a new heater valve, brake servo and fuel tank. Oil pressure gauge re-furbished and new oil pressure line fitted. The car is under sealed and fitted with an Autosound classic car DAB/ FM radio 200 with Bluetooth connectivity. In early 2023, the car being 51 years old, she was resprayed in an original Volvo 1800ES colour, alpine blue metallic (code: 111-2), the engine detailed in Volvo red, and the wheels also painted. The chrome side strips, windscreen trims, front & rear bumpers, rear badges, tailgate locking mechanism, door handles, wiper arms and 4 new chrome wheel trims were all replaced. New injector wiring harness rewire, speedo cable, thermostat & ignition-coil fitted, a full service & MOT was carried out and also, a new interior headlining and sun visors fitted, The interior was also been retrimmed and presents beautifully.

The car recently won first in class at the Hebden Bridge festival of vintage in August 2023 and the car was shown at the NEC classic car show in November 2023.
