celebrating the British Council and
0:53
they've been in business now for 90
0:55
years 90 years and the ripples that
0:58
they've created would helping others is
1:00
tremendous it's not ripples anymore it's
1:02
actually waves so this is what they've
1:04
done on a global basis today we've got
1:07
Professor Samir Samir thank you Sam
1:09
Ahmed yeah yeah yeah welcome to the
1:12
podcast thanks very much for inviting me
1:14
it's really my pleasure to be here and
1:16
uh participate in the celebration of the
1:19
British Council and you're a great
1:21
person could you introduce everybody
1:23
yourself and your what you do right yeah
1:26
um as you mentioned I'm a professor of
1:28
mechanical engineering at K University
1:29
univers I before that I did my BHD at
1:33
Cambridge
1:34
University uh for in between 2003
1:39
2007 then I stayed in Cambridge doing
1:43
bosok research uh for around 2 years
1:47
then I moved to the Middle East area for
1:50
to be a faculty in in the University so
1:53
first I went to Saudi Arabia King fad
1:56
University okay uh for like three years
1:59
then I came here I I'm going to take you
2:02
back to Cambridge cuz it's probably one
2:04
of the best cities in the UK for me
2:07
right right out of all the other big
2:09
ones Cambridge is is is really special
2:11
to me because of the weather normally
2:13
when I'm going there the the the history
2:16
what was it like being a member of
2:18
Cambridge
2:19
University yeah when I first maybe I
2:22
didn't mention how I I got the the the
2:26
BHD at Cambridge University at when I
2:28
was in Egypt I finished my master and uh
2:31
bachelor degree uh a British Petroleum
2:34
Company announced for a scholarship uh
2:36
to the the the the Cambridge to do PhD
2:39
at Cambridge University and I
2:41
participated among like thousands you
2:44
know Egypt Egypt like is more than 100
2:46
billion people I mean it was a very
2:48
tough competition and luckily I chosen
2:51
for that uh
2:52
scholarship uh so when I went to
2:55
Cambridge everyone told me even the I
2:57
met the ambassador of the British
2:59
ambassador at at Cairo uh he said this
3:03
is like a University City I didn't
3:07
recognize what that means but when I
3:09
went to Cambridge I found like it's like
3:11
you are walking in an open Museum uh
3:16
these colleges the the university
3:18
building and everything in the city like
3:21
linked with the university in in a way
3:23
or another apart from of the beauty
3:26
landscape the weather yeah all of that
3:28
you can tell
3:30
whatever you would like to tell but to
3:33
to find a a whole city like within a
3:37
university or a university within a city
3:39
this is was a new for me the history was
3:43
just when you must have been there in
3:46
the in the universities to be walking in
3:49
the same foot press Footprints is some
3:51
of the biggest Minds that the world has
3:54
ever seen must have been special right
3:56
yeah I mean those uh Nobel Prize winner
4:00
or uh something like uh Trinity College
4:04
when this hall for you know different in
4:08
inventors and great scientist yeah you
