Newly elected members of the House and Senate were sworn in on January 3, with Republicans taking control of both chambers and the presidency.
In the Senate, Republicans gained four seats, including a significant victory in Pennsylvania, where Dave McCormick defeated longtime incumbent Senator Bob Casey.
This win contributed to the Republican majority in the Senate of 53-45, with 2 independents.
All 435 seats in the House of Representatives were also up for grabs. In Pennsylvania's 8th District, Rob Bresnahan unseated incumbent Matt Cartwright, aiding the Republican majority.
The current House stands at 220 Republicans to 213 Democrats.
