Every step on the frozen planks creaked, echoing into the dark abyss below. But the moment I opened the heavy oak door and stepped inside, the chaos vanished.

I threw the deadbolt and felt the immediate, heavy silence of safety. The cast-iron stove is roaring now, radiating a heat that seeps right into your bones. Outside, the world has disappeared into a blue and white void. The wind is screaming around the corners of the cabin, shaking the window frames, but it can't get in here.
