Hey everyone! I am SUPER stoked to share this NieR Replicant cover; I think it's one of the best things I've made in a long time.
When I heard that NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... (what a name lol) was coming out, I thought it was about time that I take a serious listen to the soundtrack and Kaine's theme inspired me right away with the simple piano accompaniment and beautiful vocal line. Actually, getting the melody to sound as expressive as the original vocal performance was probably the hardest part of playing this song.
In the end I wanted to keep the arrangement fairly simple, building somewhat in the second half with a bit more intensity, because the impression I get from the song is that of innocence, hope, but also pain. (I haven't actually played the game yet so not spoilers haha! But I love that this song can speak so much about the character just through music.)
Then for the video, I thought it would be really interesting to draw on that black-and-white aesthetic NieR has going on with a pop of red for some drama.
