Materials: ALcohol-based markers and ink on regular Xerox multi-purpose paper

Please note that I had to be place in a very awkward position to get a clear way to tape the coloring. Being farter then usual to the drawing, my (myopic) eyes lacked precision and I went over the lines quite often in this demo... Oups! But as you can see, when you go over the line, don't worry and keep going. You'll be able to fix it with some retouches at the end! ;)


Q: Why do I use regular printer paper instead of professional marker paper?
R: I've found that the coloring technique I use is better fit with a paper that have a high ink absorbency, meaning that a lot of ink get trapped in it. By using a lot of ink on absorbent paper, I work with a very wet surface, which allows me to really blend the color with a diffusion effect. Downside to it? It can easily cause some ink bleeding. Professional paper has a special coating that prevents bleeding, but it also gives a low absorbency potential to the paper.


Q: Why do I use Indian ink for the finishing touches instead of markers?
R: Indian ink is not absorbed as easily as alcohol-based marker ink and won't bleed, so the colors stay sharper and crisper.


My tips for this king of paper:
-Keep your surface wet
-Go fast and don't be afraid to push down those markers!
-For a more delimited contrast between colors, allow ink to dry between coats
-Don't be scared of doing bright contrasting light effects.
-If you go over the line, don't worry and keep going. You'll be able to fix it with some retouched at the end.
