Advanced Tune Tuesday - The Banks (Hornpipe)
I learned this tune for this week’s #2022advancedplayerschallenge and it triggered all manner of classical violin lessons bowing technique trauma. I wasn’t great at this particular thing (what is this thing even called - triplet string crossing whatever) back then and I’m less great at it now. But we soldier on.
After I recorded this here tune, The Banks, I did a little research on it and found out that it is referred to as a “classical hornpipe” and I think that sounds about right. Somehow, the violinist Ostinelli gets involved in the story and I was again reminded of how much he hated fiddling. That’s always funny to me. Anyway, I grew to enjoy this tune as I worked on it and for my own amusement I substituted a little shuffle business in toward the end.
