Sister Mary Christa Nutt R.S.M., Superior/Director of Education, Religious Sisters of Mercy, Michigan presented Newman Centre's third Faith & Reason lecture of 2019-2020.
Synopsis: Are women excluded from full participation in the Catholic Church? An appreciation of the meaning of participation and complementarity shows how women may fully participate in the life of the Church and find deep fulfillment as women.
Speaker Biography: Sister Mary Christa Nutt, RSM
Originally from Philadelphia, USA, Sister Mary Christa has been a member of the Religious Sisters of Mercy of Alma, Michigan since 2002. She is currently serving as her community’s local superior in Alma. She also serves on the general council and as the director of intellectual formation of her religious institute. Prior to her entrance into religious life, she studied history and English and taught at the high school level.
As a religious sister, she earned a baccalaureate, a license of sacred theology, and a doctoral degree in moral theology at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome. Sister Mary Christa has a broad background of experience in service to the Church, including working at the Apostolic Nunciature to the United States in Washington, DC, serving as coordinator of the Bishops’ Office for United States Visitors to the Vatican, coordinating events for the Thomistic Institute at the Angelicum in Rome, and teaching classes on Saint Thomas Aquinas at the Pontifical North American College.
