This song contains the last words my biological father left me with a few days before his death.
Briefly, one of my brothers was a heavy alcoholic. After losing his job and facing many hardships in life, he went to a traditional healer and was told that his own father was the reason for his lack of success—that his father was bewitching him, as Swahili people say.
When he returned home from the healer, he insulted our father badly. My father remained silent and did not respond with a single word.
I strongly defended my father because I had seen how much he loved this brother of ours more than all of us.
My father then knelt down, crying, and told me the words that I have quoted and sung in this song.
After that conversation, I said goodbye to him and returned to Dar es Salaam. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to see my father alive again. I later received a phone call informing me that he had passed away.
May the words of this song be a lesson to all families.
