Pastor Brett Spalding's message today is “Price of Discipleship.” Our scriptures include 2 Corinthians 5:14-18, Galatians 2:19-21, and Mark 8:27-38.
Synopsis: Jesus began to challenge the disciples and followers with His true identity, the Messiah He really and truly is, as opposed to the earthly liberator many expected Him to be.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer writes in his book, “The Cost of Discipleship,” that God’s grace is freely given to us through Christ, but it was not cheap. He states, “Cheap grace is the deadly enemy of our church... Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without repentance, baptism without church discipline, communion without confession... Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ.”
This Sunday we will examine the truth that while grace is free, it is anything but cheap and what that means for us as Christians.
