📘 Multnomah & ABC Africa — A Library’s Second Life
In this episode, Dr. G traces the remarkable and deeply personal connection between Multnomah and ABC in Africa, a story that began quietly with students and grew into an international partnership impacting an entire nation. As his time at Multnomah was coming to a close, four seminary students from Rwanda arrived with a clear vision: a growing ministry and a dream to establish a Bible college in their home country. What they lacked was one critical resource — books.
For three years, Dr. G and his students rallied to help build a library for this emerging ministry. That effort became the seed of a much larger connection. Teams began traveling to Rwanda. Relationships formed. Leaders like Ron Frost and Allen Hotchkiss stepped in to advise and recruit support. Slowly but surely, Multnomah became woven into the fabric of what God was doing there.
As the Bible college took shape, Dr. G brought with him ideas forged at Multnomah — Bible marathons, student-driven initiatives, and a deep love for Scripture. Rwandan students embraced the vision and helped launch a new organization, naming it ABC — All the Bible in Community — as a reminder of its roots. Meanwhile, Multnomah faculty, alumni, and partner churches began donating books, creating a growing central library designed to serve Bible schools across Rwanda.
When the future of the Multnomah Library itself came into question, Dr. G knew instantly where its second life should be. In a region where physical books remain invaluable, where English is the language of education, and where theological resources are desperately needed, the timing felt unmistakably God-ordained. What once served generations of students in Portland would now equip pastors, teachers, and churches across Africa.
Standing in the Multnomah Library one last time was heartbreaking — but also hopeful. What had been a home away from home would become that again, this time in Rwanda, strengthening a new church, a new generation, and a growing gospel witness.
