A U.S. Army team transfers the remains of United States Army Pvt. Christian Bacchus of Washington, D.C., Jan. 21, 2026, at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware. Bacchus was assigned Company D, 1st Battalion 4th Infantry Regiment, Joint Multination Readiness Center, Hohenfels, Germany.
An investigation is underway into the off-base death of a soldier in Bavaria last week. Pvt. Christian Bacchus, 21, died Saturday in an accident near Neustadt an der Waldnaab, 7th Army Training Command spokeswoman Lacey Justinger said Thursday. The accident was not training-related, she added. The location is about 25 minutes east of Grafenwoehr Training Area. Bacchus had served as an armor crewman with the 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center in Hohenfels since September 2023, Maj. Brian Tierce, a spokesman for the center, said Thursday.
