Originating in 1965, the Merrill Ice Drags have been using Lake Alexander as a Drag Strip!! known as the "Fastest 1/8 Mile on Ice". This annual event features various racing categories, including street vehicles and high-performance classes reaching speeds over 140 MPH, with specialized "nailies" used for traction. The track currently holds a world record of 141.6 MPH in 5.431 seconds.
