Wooden Double-Acting Air Engine 300 Rpm

Описание: In this video, I will show another wooden air engine that I made, It's made mostly out of Ash wood (not 100% certain that's it's ash wood... yet) & the lighter wood that you can see is pine. This engine is of the type with a double-acting cylinder & it's my second attempt at making a engine of its kind. The first double-acting engine I made is as beautiful as this one the difference is that I never could get it to work. There will be another video about this engine in the future!

What did I learn from making this engine? Small toy steam engines are a great source of inspiration & a good object to study the workings of, but. Scaling toys up have some limits. I could not get my first engine to run, because the ration between the air intake and cylinder volume was to great. Simply speaking, the engine want to consume more air then is provided by the inlet, how does one solve this? make the inlet port bigger... I tried & it almost worked. Ok if it doesn't help to give it more air, go back to square one and change the design completely.
This is also the first engine I tried having the flywheel supported at only one side & all I can say is... if the flywheel is bigger than 5 centimeters in diameter ad supports on both sides. It will decrease the wobble & put les strain on the crank shaft.

If I'm correct, the fastest speed achieved with this engine is 420 rotations per minute (This result may change when I have more accurate means of measuring tools specifically for RPM)

If there is enough interest in how I made some of the parts and how it works, I will make a similar video like the one of my gramophone.
