This is a review of the OO Gauge Hornby Class 91 Electric Locomotive model train that is numbered as 91031 in the Intercity livery named as "Sir Henry Royce" that was released in 1996. This Class 91 model is part of the Hornby "Top Link" range of model trains that was introduced in 1996 until the top link branding was dropped in 2000 if I remember correctly.
The Class 91 model has the type 6 ringfield motor that is quite a fast runner on this model as the responsiveness is very good as is shown in the test run on this video. The performance is very good factoring in that this model train was released 22 years ago. This proves that these older ringfields can be very reliable and responsive if they are looked after and well maintained.
The model has been fitted with a replacement chassis at some point as the front valence is in black like those supplied with the Intercity 225 sets as opposed to the white valance at the front end near the bufferbeam that was shown on the model in the 1996 Hornby Railways catalogue. Its nothing that some white paint cannot fix though as I do like to detail my model trains and I will be addind a driver into this model a bit later.
The price of this model locomotive will vary as it is now only available to buy as a pre-owned used model train as this model train from Hornby is 22 years old. The model is great and does look nice in the fleet but the only let down is a lack of directional lighting although there are third party lighting kits available to retrofit to the model if required.
