Archaeologist Dr Matthew Kelly is leading the investigation of a number of WWII sites in PNG including Eora Creek a battlefield on the Kokoda Track, and Blamey’s Garden - an intricate horticultural folly near Owers’ Corner. These sites are well known to the local landowners and villagers, but not to the wider community. The evidence has much to add to the history of the Pacific War. Matthew specialises in the historical archaeology of Australia and has worked on sites such as The Mint, the Big Dig at the Rocks and the Government Cottage, Newcastle.
