Should you Self-Release to Amazon Video Direct?

But is it the right way to go? Amazon is just one platform. You should understand that if you release the film on your own to Amazon, you're probably not going to get any other company to pick up the remaining platforms. There are 100+ potential platforms, and that number is growing.

Also, you should understand that there are windows: TVOD (Transactional), SVOD (Subscription), and AVOD (Ad-Based) Video on Demand. If you jump one, you can't go back (meaning almost no one will buy your film when they can stream it for free).

But perhaps you think you can make a lot of money on Amazon? At the time of this video, Amazon is anywhere from 1 to 6 cents per hour. Let's say you were somehow able to get 6 cents per hour. That means you'd have to have your film watched for 1 million minutes to make $1000. Yikes.
