1. The Problem We Solved

The project addresses a common and critical issue in healthcare, particularly for elderly patients. After a consultation, patients often struggle to remember all the details of the doctor's instructions, including medication schedules, necessary precautions, and follow-up actions. This communication gap can lead to confusion, improper care, and anxiety for both the patient and their caregivers.

2. Our Solution

We have built a sophisticated, single-page web application called the Doctor's AI Assistant. This tool is designed to be used by a doctor during a consultation to create an instant, clear, and actionable summary of the visit for the patient. It acts as a digital scribe, leveraging generative AI to bridge the communication gap and ensure patients leave with clear, understandable instructions.

3. Core Features We Implemented

Over the course of our collaboration, we developed the following key features:

Real-Time Voice Transcription: The application can listen to a live conversation between a doctor and patient and convert the speech into text in real-time.

Handwritten Prescription Analysis: Doctors can upload a photo of a handwritten prescription, and the AI analyzes the image to extract the medical information.

AI-Powered Summarization: Using Google's Gemini AI model, the application processes the raw text from either the conversation or the prescription and generates a structured, easy-to-understand report. The report is broken down into:

A simple summary of the visit.

A detailed list of medications with their purpose and instructions.

An actionable checklist for the patient.

Multi-Language Support: The application supports multiple languages common in India (including English, Hindi, Marathi, and Tamil) for both transcription and summary generation, making it highly accessible.

Patient History & Recall: The most advanced feature is the integration of a secure patient database using Firebase Firestore.

Doctors can enter a patient's name and a unique ID (like a phone number).

After generating a summary, they can save the entire visit to the patient's secure record.

They can later search for the patient by their ID to instantly recall and review all previous visit summaries, ensuring excellent continuity of care.

Multiple Export Options: The final summary can be easily printed for a hard copy, copied to the clipboard, or shared directly via WhatsApp.

Modern User Interface: We refined the application's design through several iterations, resulting in a polished, attractive, and user-friendly dark theme that is easy on the eyes.

4. Technology Used

Frontend: The application is built entirely within a single HTML file, styled with Tailwind CSS, and powered by modern JavaScript.

AI & Machine Learning:

Speech-to-Text: The browser's native Web Speech API.

AI Analysis: Google's Gemini API for text summarization and image analysis (gemini-1.5-flash-latest and gemini-pro-vision).

Database & Backend: Google Firebase Firestore for real-time, secure storage of patient data and visit history.

5. Current Status

The project is a fully functional, end-to-end prototype that successfully demonstrates all the core features. The final step required for full deployment is for the user (the doctor) to create a free Firebase project and insert their unique configuration keys into the designated section of the code to activate the patient history feature.
