The letter clarifies that this is not a full-fledged war but a limited targeted military action. Targets include Iran's ballistic missile launch sites, maritime mining capabilities, air defence systems, and command and control infrastructure. Trump states the core objective is to halt Iran's nuclear weapons pursuit and degrade its ability to threaten the region. The letter emphasises protecting US forces, defending the American homeland, and ensuring the free flow of oil through strategic trade routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has threatened to close.
