Shane Newman, the 21-year-old man indicted for allegedly trying to shoot a Canton police officer during a Walmart shoplifting arrest last year, appeared for his arraignment Friday in Stark County Common Pleas Court.
Newman, who was indicted by a Stark County grand jury on Feb. 13, pleaded not guilty to the below charges :
1 count of attempted murder
1 count of felonious assault
1 count of robbery
1 count of having weapons under disability
1 count of carrying concealed weapons
1 count of aggravated possession of drugs
1 count of possession of drugs
1 count of obstructing official business
Several of the charges carry three-year firearms specifications.
