📺 VIDEO DESCRIPTION- What started as an epic winter road trip through the mountains quickly turned into the worst camping trip imaginable.
After secretly getting married in Las Vegas, my new wife Nat Moran and I hit the road with our good friends Mike and Susan from Runaway Parents for a truck camping adventure from Las Vegas, Nevada to Brian Head, Utah. The plan was simple — find an amazing winter camping spot in the mountains and enjoy some beautiful snow-covered boondocking.
But things went downhill fast…
The deeper we climbed into the mountains near Brian Head, the worse the conditions became. Massive snow drifts and closed forest roads made it nearly impossible to find a safe place to camp. When we finally decided to turn around and head back down the mountain, we were hit with a nightmare scenario no overlander wants to face — complete brake failure.
Both trucks lost braking power on the steep mountain descent… and things got even worse when Runaway Parents’ truck brakes actually caught fire.
Thankfully we managed to limp both truck campers safely down the mountain and find a place to camp for the night. But the chaos wasn’t over yet. Once we arrived at camp I discovered a massive water leak inside my Lance 1062 truck camper, turning an already stressful trip into a full-blown disaster.
The next day we pushed forward toward Bryce Canyon National Park, hoping the worst was behind us. While searching for a remote boondocking campsite in the Utah backcountry, both of our truck campers ended up hopelessly stuck in deep mud.
After several hours of digging, recovery boards, and teamwork, we finally managed to get free and continue the adventure.
And in true camping fashion, we ended the day the best way possible — celebrating Mike’s 50th birthday around camp with incredible Mexican short rib burritos and cookie cake under the Utah sky.
Sometimes the worst trips turn into the best memories.
