2. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin:
“Of course, we would not want the president to have to refuse a visit to Armenia for some reason. Armenia is our ally, it is a friendly state, our partner, and of course we have much in common with the fraternal Armenian people. And we have no doubt that we will always have it (in common). But at the same time, of course, we will have additional questions to the leadership of Armenia, to the current leadership of Armenia.”

“We doubt and doubted from the very beginning that from the point of view of bilateral relations, that Armenia joining the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court is correct. We still believe that this is an incorrect decision.”

6. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin:
“We absolutely disagree with the words of Armenian Prime Minister (Nikol) Pashinyan that Armenia’s decision to join the Rome Statute was due to the insufficiency of the instruments of CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) and the Armenian-Russian partnership to ensure the country’s security. This is wrong. And I think that, after all, the majority in Armenia understand that the instruments of the CSTO and the Armenian-Russian partnership are absolutely irreplaceable at the moment.”

8. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin:
“As for other discussions regarding (Nagorno-) Karabakh, we must always remember the decision of Mr. Pashinyan, which he made in Prague and recognized the borders of Azerbaijan as of 1991. Accordingly, he recognized the territory of (Nagorno-) Karabakh as the territory of Azerbaijan. And this is precisely the forerunner of the whole situation that now exists.”

STORYLINE:
Russia considers Armenia’s decision to ratify the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court as “wrongful”, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.
Armenia's parliament voted earlier Tuesday to join the International Criminal Court, a move that further strains the country's ties with its old ally Russia after the court issued an arrest warrant for President Vladimir Putin over events in Ukraine.
“We doubt and doubted from the very beginning that from the point of view of bilateral relations, that Armenia joining the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court is correct,” Peskov said at a conference call with journalists.
Armenia's relations with Russia have frayed significantly in recent years.
