Safe vs unsafe overtaking – Cycling along Lågen 2024 🚴‍♂️🌲

🚴‍♂️ Welcome to a 5-minute clip from my feature film where I cycle from the center of Øyer to Lillehammer – and back again!
This part of the ride goes on the west side of Lågen, heading north towards Øyer. Here you will get both beautiful nature, historical surroundings and a few situations that show how important road safety is for us who travel by bike.
🌟 About the area
Øyer and the Lillehammer region are known for their beautiful cycling routes, quiet villages and historical landmarks. On the trip I stop by the Olympic Park, and take a short detour up to the iconic Lysgårdsbakkene, used during the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics – one of Norway's most famous sports facilities.
This area offers both culture, history and fantastic views of Gudbrandsdalen.
⚠️ Dangerous overtaking – and a good example
In this clip, I am overtaken by a timber trailer that creates an unnecessarily dangerous situation. The road is narrow, and when you know how big the blind spot challenges are for such vehicles, the driver could have made a safer choice. It is often just a matter of a few seconds of extra patience.
Fortunately, a bus driver shows a little later in the film how to overtake safely and respectfully. It deserves praise – and shows that there are many good road users out there who think of others besides themselves.
🌿 Nature and the area
Despite the traffic this morning (Hunderfossen Family Park had just opened its doors), this is usually a quiet and beautiful stretch of road to cycle. You get glimpses of the river, the forest, the cultural landscape and the calm atmosphere that makes Øyer one of my favorite areas.
