PM HIP is an advanced manufacturing process used to manufacture high value engineering components used in a variety of industrial sectors, including aerospace, nuclear, oil and gas, automotive, medical and defence.
What makes PM HIP unique is the simultaneous application of high temperatures and isostatic pressures for the specified dwell time in order to produce parts with 100% theoretical dense material, homogeneous microstructure, and isotropic material properties.
The main advantages of PM HIP compared to conventional manufacturing routes are increased design flexibility, superior mechanical properties, the generation of an isotropic fine grained microstructure, reduction of the buy to fly ratio and lead times for the production of complex geometries, the ability to produce components with graded functionality or multi material components, and the possibility to join dissimilar materials through the hip diffusion bonding process.
