Описание: West Bengal’s political earthquake is no longer just about an election defeat — it has now become a full-scale constitutional crisis.

On 7 May 2026, Governor R.N. Ravi invoked Article 174(2)(b) of the Constitution to dissolve the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. Within hours, Mamata Banerjee’s refusal to resign became constitutionally irrelevant as the Assembly’s five-year tenure came to an end under Article 172.

But the bigger shock came from former Calcutta High Court Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, who resigned from the SIR Appellate Tribunal after exposing what may become one of the most controversial judicial admissions in recent electoral history.

He revealed that:
• Nearly 1 lakh appeals are still pending
• Kolkata appeals could take four more years to clear
• Orders had to be shortened to 4–5 lines because of portal word limits
• Appeals were heard even under trees due to the condition of the process

His resignation raises serious constitutional questions about Article 326, voting rights, judicial review, and whether the SIR mechanism itself became practically unworkable.

Now, with Article 32 petitions expected in the Supreme Court, legal experts believe Bengal could become the center of a historic battle over electoral integrity, disenfranchisement, and the future of India’s democratic process.

This is no longer just a political story.
This may become one of the defining constitutional confrontations of modern India.
