Palau flag - Thats no Sun!

Symbolic, but maybe not so obvious.

The flag has the same design, but not colour, as the Bangladeshi flag, although the symbolisms are very different. The blue background is not, as many assume, a symbol of the Pacific Ocean where the island resides, but in fact relates to, and quote "The final passage of the foreign administration authority from our land".
Which is a reference to the country's time as a United Nations Trust Territory.

The off-centre golden disk represents a full moon which is traditionally considered the best time for fishing, planting, and well other such activities. It is also said that the symbol gives the locals a feeling of warmth, tranquility, peace, love, and domestic unity.

The flag became official on 1st January 1981 after a flag competition was held in 1979 which had over a thousand proposals. That original flag now sits in the Palau Museum in the capital.
