Stanford might be known as the “Cardinal” (the color, not the bird), but their unofficial mascot is one of the weirdest in all of college football: The Tree. What started as a sarcastic joke from the marching band in 1975 has become a beloved — and totally chaotic — tradition. Each year, a new student takes over as The Tree and designs a bizarre, one-of-a-kind costume.
