පන්කුලිය අශෝකාරාමය....... Pankuliya Ashokaramaya.....

Описание: අනුරාධපුර පූජනීය නගරයේ පිහිටි නටබුන් ආරාම අතරින් වැඩි දෙනෙක් නොයන, ඒත් ඉතා සුන්දර විහාරයක් තමයි පන්කුලිය අශෝකාරාමය. එහි පිහිටි මඳ සිනහවකින් යුත් හිඳි බුදු පිළිමය අපේ කලාකරුවන්ගේ ඉතා විශිෂ්ට නිර්මාණයක්. සංඝමිත්තා මාවතේ උතුරු දෙසට පෙරිමියන්කුලම පසුකර කි. මී. 2ක් ගමන් කරන විට අශෝකාරාමය වෙත දිවෙන ගුරු පාර හමුවෙනවා. මේ ගම හඳුන්වන්නේ පන්කුලිය කියලායි. පන්කුලියට ළඟාවීමට හාල්පානු ඇලෙන් එගොඩ විය යුතුයි.

මෙම පෙදෙස උතුරින් වගුරු බිමකින්ද, දකුණින් වෙල්යායකින්, නැගෙනහිරින් මල්වතු ඔයෙන්, හා බටහිරින් විශාල පොකුණකින්ද සිමාවී තිබෙනවා. මේ අවට මොණරුන් බහුලව ගැවසෙනු දැකගත හැකියි. එය අයත් වන්නේ අශෝකාරාම ග්‍රාම සේවා වසමටයි.

ජනප්‍රවාදයේ සාධක අනුව දුටුගැමුණු මහ රජුගේ පුත් වූ සාලිය කුමාරයා ස්වකීය භාර්යාව වු අශෝකමාලාවගේ නමින් අශෝකාරාමය කරවන ලද බවත් ඔවුන්ගේ ප්‍රේම  වෘතාන්තය  හා සම්බන්ධ මල් උයනෙහි එය පිහිටා තිබුණු බවත් ජනප්‍රවාදයේ සඳහන් වේ (සිංහල ශබ්ධ කෝෂය 1965:270).

Among the ruined monasteries in the sacred city of Anuradhapura, Pankuliya Ashokaramaya is a very beautiful temple that is not visited by many people. The sitting Buddha statue with a slight smile there is a very excellent creation of our artists. On the Sanghamittha Mawatha, going north past Perimyankulam. When you travel for 2 km, you will come across the Guru Path leading to Ashokaramaya. This village is called Pankuliya. To reach Pankuliya, you have to cross the Halpanu Stream.

This area is bounded by a swamp to the north, a paddy field to the south, the Malwathu Oya to the east, and a large pond to the west. Peacocks can be seen roaming around in abundance here. It belongs to the Asokarama Grama Seva Division.
According to folklore, Prince Saliya, the son of King Dutugemunu, built the Ashokarama in the name of his wife, Ashokamala, and it was located in the flower garden associated with their love story (Sinhala Dictionary 1965:270).
