Can You Work With Mary & The Devil Simultanseously? • Syncretism, Heresy & Dual Faith in Folk Magic

In this unscripted, improvised conversation I touch on the themes of dual faith, animism, heresy and working with seemingly opposing powers in folk magic and traditional witchcraft. I'm coming from the foundations of historical, folkloric, ethnographic sources about Polish folk magic and witchcraft, as well as animism and my personal experience. I acknowledge that this is certainly not a chosen path for all and I absolutely understand the need to choose a less syncretic path (like paganism, or any given religion) - I myself come from a background of having deep religious wounds stemming from growing up in Catholicism, so I understand and respect those who are in a similar place. I am, however, pointing at some themes that can be gleaned from how our ancestors (who practiced dual faith) may have reconciled these beliefs and paradigms in their animistic and folkloric perception of the world & magical practice.
