Brettski stood at the edge of the high-limit pit, heart pounding like a war drum. Behind him: Robby, Bluff, and their newest ally—Nick, a smooth-talking poker degenerate from New Jersey they’d met the night before. The sting of losing $100,000 still hung in the air like cigarette smoke. But today? Vengeance.

Each of them peeled off ten grand in cash, stacking it into a single pile.

“Forty grand,” Brettski muttered. “One shot to flip this.”

Bluff raised an eyebrow. “Where?”

“Dragon Baccarat,” said Nick, cracking his knuckles. “It’s got the highest variance. We either double up… or go home in silence.”

The dealer gave a slow nod as they sat down. First hand: Player wins. They were up five grand instantly.

Second hand: Banker wins. Back to square one.

The next ten minutes were a blur—bets flying, adrenaline rising, Nick screaming “Parlay!” after every win. They built it up to $68,000—almost there.

Then Robby saw it.

“$1,000 side bet—Player pair,” he whispered.

“Don’t do it,” Brettski warned. “That’s how the devil gets you.”

Robby did it anyway. The cards hit: Player—7 of hearts, 7 of diamonds.

The pit roared. The side bet paid out 11-to-1.

They hit $79,000.

“Twenty-one grand away,” Bluff grinned. “Let’s finish this.”

But that’s when the pit boss stepped in.

“Gentlemen, upstairs guests would like a word,” he said, voice calm but cold. “They've been watching your little comeback. They want to offer you a shortcut to six figures.”

“What kind of shortcut?” Nick asked.

The pit boss gestured to the service elevator in the back, guarded by two men in suits.

“High-stakes poker. No cameras. One hand. Double or nothing.”

Brettski glanced at the others.

“Do we walk away winners… or take the elevator?”

The doors opened with a chime.

No one moved.
