To put it simply: they have to opt in for your stuff, period. If someone signs up on your website for a free checklist, a master class, or some valuable newsletter, then yes, you're good to go. They gave you the green light to reach out.
But let's talk about those networking events and conferences. Met someone interesting? Great! Just don't dump their email into your CRM and start blasting them with your deal of the day! That's a no-go. Not only can this get you in legal hot water with potential fines, but it also tarnishes your reputation.
Think about it. When you spam people, they lose respect for you. Trust is essential in the digital world, and without it, you have nothing. Instead, offer something valuable that makes them want to opt in. Get them to voluntarily raise their hand and say, "Yes, I'm interested." That's where you want to be.
Remember, consent is key. Give value to get value in return.
