The legend tells that at first there was only a meadow valley with a small hill and a rock without any water. It was a place where mountain fairies gathered and danced at night. Bled's Shepherds grazed their sheep in the valley, which ate grass around the fairy rock. The fairies begged the Bled's shepherds to put a fence around their dance spot, so that the grass would remain soft, but the Bled's shepherds did not oblige. One day the youngest and most stunning of the fairies broke her leg while dancing. The fairies were angry and called upon the springs and brooks to storm into the valley and flood it with water. The only place that was not flooded was the hill with the rock, so the fairies could still dance there - today this spot is Lake Bled Island.
